The South Beach Diet Revealed

The South Beach diet was written by cardiologist Arthur Agatston, MD, director of the Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

Almost everybody has heard about Dr. Agatston’s Diet. This diet was designed to lose weight in a healthy and fast way.

There are two important aspects to consider in this diet:

1.) The Fats: The South Beach diet teaches you to eat healthy fats and bans the unhealthy fats.

2.) The Carbohydrates: It is believed that the natural carbohydrates are good for your health. These are the Low-sugar-Carbs which don’t cause the rise and fall of your blood sugar levels as quickly as concentrated carbohydrates would.

The south beach diet is based on the belief that the people of the modern world are craving for carbohydrates, especially refined carbohydrates.

In order to overcome this crave, the first two weeks is to accustom the body to live without. The claims are that after the second or third days you don’t even miss the carbs as much anymore.

The refined carbohydrates get digested and quickly cause the rising of the blood sugar levels. When the blood sugar levels raises rapidly the body reacts with an overdose of insulin to burn that sugar. The excess insulin levels in the blood gives you this craving for refined carbohydrates, let’s say refined sugar.

… This diet restricts every refined carbohydrate out of your diet. Even the natural carbohydrates found in potatoes, fruit, cereal, rice, carrots, corn and beets are strongly restricted the first 2 weeks.

But don’t worry, you won’t go hungry. Following this diet you will have to snack often. And what I like about it you don’t have count calories or have certain portion restrictions. You just eat normal until you feel good and satisfied, not full.

The South Beach diet has 3 stages

1.) The first 2 weeks is the so called induction stage: In this stage fruit, potatoes, rice, bread, baked goods, pasta and any form of alcoholic beverages are totally restricted.

2.) The “reintroduce the carbohydrates” stage: In this stage you can start to incorporate foods that contain natural carbohydrates into your diet. This should be done gradually day by day. This stage ends when you reach your ideal weight.

3.) The final stage: This stage is your lifetime diet. Normal and healthy eating in normal portions keeping in mind a few guidelines.

A final word on this Diet

I think this is a good diet because it doesn’t cut out a mayor food group. For me this is a good balanced diet after the second week. Supplementing this diet with Aloe Vera juice and exercise is a good choice.

I recommend following diets under the supervision of a holistic health care practitioner who knows your health conditions.

And another thing: It is recommended to clean your body and you can do this with a diet.
