The Amazing Acai Berry

The acai berry is harvested from a palm tree in the Amazon rainforest. The Brazilian natives have used this fruit since centuries. They use the berry as food, accompanying with tapioca and Fish...

The palm tree can grow up to 15 to 30 meters. It is a good commercial alternative for the poor population in the Amazon basin. The acai is harvested by hand.

This fruit is known to have high nutritional value. That is why it became so commercial important for the last years on the alternative health market.

The fruit spoils very quickly. Normally it will keep for a day after harvest. But there are commercial stabilizing forms to conserve the acai fruit.

The blooming time of the palm tree is between September and January.

The berries are red and turn dark purple when ripe.

The acai berry has a single large seed with a thin layer of fleshy meaty like substance around the seed. The native Brazilians make a beverage from this fruit.

But not only is the acai berry used from this palm tree, but also the palm hearts “Palmitos”.

From a full grown palm tree there can be harvested 1 meter of palm hearts by cutting down the tree.

Palm trees grow in swamps and Aloe Vera grows in desert or semi desert regions. But nature puts in every region a plant with medicinal properties. And it is always the best to consume anything as fresh as possible.
